Meet your Highly Qualified School Board Candidates

Conservatives have the opportunity to vote for two Franklin County School Board candidates in the 2024 General Election. The candidates offer skills and insight that may make a major difference in the quality of education in the county.

At-Large, District 6 Candidate Tom Harris

Tom Harris, Candidate for At Large (Seat 6), is the Franklinton High School Volleyball coach, and he's a grandparent.

"As a coach, parent, and grandparent, I've seen the negative impacts that school board decisions have had, especially in the past few years. Now is the time to step forward and say 'enough is enough'. Thank you for your support as I run for the Franklin County At-Large District 6 Board of Education seat," Harris, who is a Franklin County native and graduate of Louisburg High School, said.

"I look forward to meeting everyone and having the opportunity to serve the community and provide common-sense direction and decisions to the Franklin County School Board. The county's youth deserve nothing but the best to help set the direction and provide the resources to give them the educational foundations to succeed in today's world," Harris continued.

Harris advocates for a fundamental foundation focused on education - the ability to read and write, understanding of science and history, math skills commensurate with job and life, and manual skills to broaden the horizon for trades. He said he is opposed to the liberal agenda so prevalent today.

All voters will be able to select Tom Harris as their At-Large, District 6 School Board representative.

District 4 Candidate Candice Hinton

Candice Hinton, Candidate for District 4, currently serves as Principal of Granville Correctional Institution, NC Department of Adult Correction. A Franklin County native, Hinton attended high school in Bunn and later served as an educator in Franklin County for 20 years, including as an Assistant Principal. She recently completed her doctoral dissertation in Education at NC State University.

"I bring a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of the Franklin County School System, and a genuine passion for education," Hinton said. "As a member of the school board, I will ensure the superintendent and district are held accountable to achieving the set goals and working toward the district's vision. I will be a voice for parents, students, and teachers to ensure that Franklin County is responsive to the values, beliefs, and priorities of our community."

Hinton's professional background provides Franklin County parents with an understanding of the laws and policies that protect the rights of students, parents, and teachers. 

"I will bring a sense of relevance to the board while discussing issues of parental rights, transparency within the schools, fiscal accountability, and school safety," Hinton said.

Voters in the Bunn, Pilot, Lake Royale, Pearces and surrounding communities in southeastern Franklin County will be able to vote for Hinton.
